World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first-ever global health day; the first one was held in 1988.

Over the past year, members of the Coalition for the Responsible and Sustainable Development on the Near East Side, Partners Achieving Community Transformation [PACE], and interested stakeholders have continued the conversation around honoring the historical significance of Poindexter Village. Together we have formed the James P. Preston Poindexter Legacy Committee and are committed to exploring options around creating a museum-quality exhibition and historical archives.

At this meeting, guests will have the opportunity to learn about the following:

PFLAG Columbus is a local chapter of PFLAG National. “PFLAG” is Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians And Gays. We are a national support, education and advocacy organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, their families, friends and allies. With 200,000 members and supporters and local affiliates in more than 500 communities across the U.S. and abroad, PFLAG is the largest grassroots-based family organization of its kind. PFLAG is a non-profit organization and is not affiliated with any religious or political institution.

A Time Bank is a community of people who support each other. When you spend an hour to do something for an individual or group, you earn a “time credit.” Then, you can use that “time credit” to buy an hour of a neighbor’s time or engage in a group activity offered by a neighbor. It’s that simple. Yet it also has profound effects. You get to know your neighbors and friends and build an old-fashioned extended family of people who take care of each other. A Time Bank changes a whole community. Bring a dish to share and learn about the Care and Share Time Bank.
