National Adjunct Walk-Out Day

On college campuses across the nation, Wednesday, February 25th has been designated National Adjunct Walk-Out Day (NAWD) in order to raise consciousness about the inequities and exploitation faced by adjuncts.   Although there is no national or centrally coordinated effort, the idea of NAWD has struck a nerve with thousands of adjuncts who endure low wages, job insecurity, and other disparities as they teach the current generation of college students.

Cbus2Ferguson: By Any Means Necessary

Saturday, February 21, 3pm, Goodale Park, 120 W. Goodale St.; to Columbus Police Department, 120 Marconi Blvd.

On the 50th anniversary of Malcolm X’s assassination, join us as we take to the streets. We will be marching from Goodale Park to the Columbus Police Department to protest the continued targeting and devaluing of Black lives. We need to bring an end to police brutality — by any means necessary.

The People First Assembly: Our Lives Matter!

Recent events resulting in the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, John Crawford and others have highlighted ongoing police brutality and the lack of accountability for law enforcement in Ohio and around the country. Ohio faces a health crisis in the form of untreated addiction and mental health disorders, and the “war on drugs” has operated by design, criminalizing millions from low income and communities of color suffering from addiction instead of providing help, treatment and alternative job opportunities into our economically struggling neighborhoods.

Columbus’s Fifth Anniversary Rally observing the negative effects of the Citizens United vs. the F.E.C. Supreme Court decision

We will meet at 11am at Progress Ohio, 172 E. State St. At 11:30am, we will depart for the Ohio Statehouse to observe this disastrous Supreme Court decision five years ago and to invite the public to Progress Ohio. At 1pm, we will return to Progress Ohio for hot chocolate, speakers (to be announced), and an informative discussion on the local effects of the 2010 Citizens United vs. FEC ruling. The event will conclude at 3:30pm.

Ohio Fair Food Protest

The YWCA of Columbus is hosting an event at Wendy's HQ. Wendy's role in holding out on women farmworkers is something we believe the YWCA should consider when hosting an event there. We have approached the YWCA asking them to change the location and they chose not to.

We will be having a presence outside to welcome guests and highlight Wendy's refusal to join the Fair Food Program, which has been instrumental in combating rampant sexual abuse/harassment towards women farmworkers.

People’s Climate March in New York City

Are you ready to join others you want to show support for climate action?

Well, hop on a bus to New York City for a one-day road trip on Sunday, September 21. The People’s Climate March — held just days before the United Nations Climate Summit — is an unparalleled opportunity to let our world leaders know how urgently the public is calling for solutions to climate disruption and how we need to move quickly from dirty fuels to clean energy. Also, it just might be the biggest public outpouring of support for climate solutions that this planet has ever seen.
