Columbus Residents are working to ensure safe drinking water, clean air, and safe soil in the City of Columbus.
 
There are 13 injection wells in the Columbus Area water supply, where radioactive and toxic liquid waste from unconventional natural gas extraction (shale gas, hydrofracking), is being injected into the earth, with great potential for migration into our water supply.

A lecture by Juan González, co-host of the independent news program Democracy Now! and author of Harvest of Empire: A History of Latinos in America and News for All the People: The Epic Story of Race and the American Media.

This event is part of “50 Years Later,” a series that marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act. The series examines the historical context and current legacies of this act. Particularly, it highlights the varied and contradictory meanings of this bill for different migrant populations.

Melanie Houston of the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) will facilitate this interactive workshop and provide information on specific chemicals of concern, ways to reduce your family’s exposure and information on how you can get involved in an effort to strengthen laws on toxic chemicals.

Peggy Gish will speak about her recent time in the Kurdish region of Iraq with Christian Peacemaker Teams. With the recent events, she will likely have much to share. She will also have copies of her recent book, Walking Through Fire: Iraqis’ Struggle for Justice and Reconciliation, to sell. Peggy has been active in peace and justice work for almost 50 years. She has been working in Iraq with Christian Peacemaker Teams since October 2002.
