This event will be a lively program of traditional African-American music, African music, and Western classical music.

Urban Strings, founded in 2007, is a Central Ohio-based community youth orchestra of serious, young, talented musicians from Columbus city, charter, suburban, and private schools. Urban Strings performs a multicultural repertoire of great music ranging from classical, jazz and gospel, to R&B, and movie themes.

Opening receptions: Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21, 6-8pm, Homeport Gallery, 779 E. Long St.

With a keen eye, Jennifer captures the heart of the Mentors, the tenderness of the Fathers, the professionalism of the Educators, the service of the Baristas, the enlightenment of the Spiritual Leaders, the discipline of the Fitness Instructors, the drive of the Entrepreneurs and the depth of the Artists — all dedicated to being an example for the black boys of the next generation.

This exhibition will be on display until February 28.

Music, Dance, Poetry, Arts Participation and Storytelling is a program of African American poetry, dance and music with drummers and dancers and storytelling that encourages audience participation.

We will be holding a series of discussions on African appreciation. This series will be centered on the economic forces that shaped Africa and its people during the time of enslavement and Colonialism. We will also discuss the emergence of Pan-Africanism and the mass struggle toward African Independence.

This study started on February 4 and will be held every Thursday until [at least] March 26.
