The new Franklin County voting machines use paper ballots that may be marked with a “touch-screen” machine that prints a paper ballot [that the voter may examine before casting]; voters may also use a pen to mark their paper ballot.

Wednesday, March 27, 5:30-7:30pm, Columbus Museum of Art, 480 E. Broad St.

This event will be a joyous evening of celebration honoring the outstanding work of a Columbus LGBTQ Ally and the impactful work of a Columbus LGBTQ Advocate.

Enjoy small bites and flowing libations.

This year’s Honored Ally will be Nannette Maciejunes, Executive Director of the Columbus Museum of Art since 2003.

This year’s Honored Advocate will be Luster Singleton, former coordinator of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Student Services at The Ohio State University.

Wednesday, March 13, 9am-4pm, Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts [31st floor], 77 S. High St.

The purpose of this event will be to speak with State Senators and Representatives about the Ohio Health Security Act, asking them to become co-sponsors, and to learn more about that act.

SPAN [Single-Payer Action Network] Ohio is a coalition of individuals and organizations working together to achieve fundamental reform of the health insurance system.

You never know when you could have the chance to save a life! Overdose deaths killed 72,000 people in America last year. Ohio is #2 in overdose deaths in the country.

We are delighted to celebrate the new issue of Story Magazine! Come hang out and pick up a copy of the Spring 2019 issue, meet the staff and board, drink and eat and be merry, and say “howdy!” to a few of the contributors.

Story is a 501(c)3 based in Columbus, Ohio, and is committed to making stories accessible and vibrant. We are monster fans of our Ohio community: the cover art and two works of fiction from the issue feature Ohio authors.

You are invited to join two local dynamite Black Female Authors, Cassandra McIntosh and Diane Ladybug Ivery, as they discuss the joys of writing and having a book published.

Cassandra and Diane will engage the audience by briefly walking through the book-writing process, answering questions from the audience, and reading an excerpt from their book.

Books will be autographed and available for purchase; light refreshments and drinks will be provided.

Come send books to prisoners.

All of our activities are guided by what prisoners ask for and tell us they need. That means we do lots of different things as methods to support people inside.

We do all sorts of projects, like:

Setting up pen pals. Pen pals mean a ton to people in prison, and we have a big list of prisoners looking for someone to write to!

Sistahs, join us as we explore the topic: Strong Black Women.

• Are we helped or harmed when people identify us as the strong one?

• Are we able to get the support we need, when everyone is looking at us to be the strong one?

• Come out for great conversation, support, and sistahhood.

• We will break bread while we discuss different perspectives of the Strong Black Woman concept.
