Twenty-five years ago, on February 5, 1993, former President Bill Clinton signed the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) into law, which provided workers with unpaid, job-protected leave to recover from a serious medical condition, to provide care for a seriously ill family member, or to care for a new child. While the FMLA was a landmark piece of legislation in addressing the dual demands of work and family responsibilities, it falls short of providing many working families with the kind of leave they need: paid leave.
To mark the 25th anniversary of the FMLA, join us for a sneak peek screening of Zero Weeks, a documentary exploring America’s paid leave crisis and the importance of providing paid leave for American workers. After the screening, join advocates and legislators for a conversation about what you can do to advocate for paid family leave in Ohio.
5:30-6pm: Enjoy a complimentary drink and hors d’oeuvres included with event ticket.
6-7:30pm: We will screen the documentary, with opening remarks from Elizabeth Brown, Executive Director of the Ohio Women’s Public Policy Network.
7:30-8pm: Join moderator Heather Whaling, President/Founder of Geben Communication, for a conversation and a call to action. Panelists for the discussion include State Representative Kristin Boggs, State Representative Janine Boyd, and State Senator Charleta Tavares.
