Meeting

Saturday, June 8, 11:30am-7:30pm, Wild Goose Creative, 2491 Summit St.

Don’t believe in God? You are not alone! Join the Humanist Community of Central Ohio [HCCO], a community that values people, emphasizes reason, and focuses on this world.

This month, we will be hosting a viewing of a portion of the American Humanist Association’s 2019 conference. You are encouraged to bring food for the potluck and hang out for the day!

Thursday, June 6, 7-8:30pm, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 30 W. Woodruff Ave.

Living in Columbus, it’s not hard to see that the system is broken. We live under a reign of police terror where working-class black and brown youth are targeted for execution and imprisonment; Ohio State University and the city of Columbus have been working together to gentrify neighborhood after neighborhood; tens of thousands of students are getting into life-long debt for an education; ICE harasses undocumented immigrants with impunity; landlords and capitalists exploit and oppress us.

Saturday, May 25, 9-11pm, 899 E. Broad St.

Gentrification Drives the Color Out of Communities.

Gentrification is a general term for the arrival of wealthier people in an existing urban district, a related increase in rents and property values, and changes in the district’s character and culture. It includes the displacement of poor communities by rich outsiders. But the effects of gentrification are complex and contradictory, and its real impact varies.

Monday, May 20, 6:30-8:30pm, Northwood-High Building, 2231 N. High St., Rm. 100

Join SURJ [Showing Up For Racial Justice] Columbus this Spring as we host a racial justice film series fundraiser on March 18, April 15, and May 20. We will be requesting a sliding-scale donation; $5-$15 suggested. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. We will also have free popcorn and light refreshments.

Saturday, May 18, 12:30-4:30pm, Northwood-High Building, 2231 N. High St., Rm. 100

Thursday, May 2, 7-9pm, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and University Center, 30 W. Woodruff Ave.

Since the dissolution of our former parent organization, the International Socialist Organization [ISO], we have worked to rebuild our organizing collective on a healthier basis.

Now, we are in the process of rethinking our approach to organizing and charting a path forward to building a new revolutionary socialist organization in Ohio.
