Humanist Community of Central Ohio [HCCO] monthly meeting

Saturday, March 12, 11:30-2pm, 1550 Old Henderson Rd., Rm. 131

This month’s program: “How Curiosity Kills a Seminary Faculty Position”

The Bible says that the “truth shall set you free” but often the casualties of truth-seeking are faculty members in religious higher education. What happens when a seminary professor’s truth-seeking leads him to become a secular humanist? Professor Brandon Withrow discovered that he had to choose between his full-time faculty position and his conscience, leading him to leave his job behind. He blames curiosity but he wouldn’t change a thing.

Brandon G. Withrow is an adjunct lecturer in religious studies at The University of Findlay (Ohio), editor at The Curious Ape (thecuriousape.com), and author of nine books. He is most-recently co-author (with Menachem Wecker) of Consider No Evil: Two Faith Traditions and the Problem of Academic Freedom in Religious Higher Education (2014). Find him on Twitter at @bwithrow.

Join us at 11:30am for pizza in the meeting room; the meeting begins at 12noon.
