“Cooking Up History,” hosted by The Ohio State University Libraries

Wednesday, August 3, 3-5pm, Thompson Library [Rm. 202], 1858 Neil Ave. Mall

Elizabeth Holup is a 2022 recipient of the Undergraduate Research Library Fellowship; her undergraduate research this summer has focused on late 19th-century and early 20th-century manuscript (handwritten) cookbooks that women had compiled and utilized in their daily domestic lives.

Although cookbooks are often thought of as “non-literary” texts, careful study of them can reveal much about cultural history, from past culinary trends to how women strengthened community bonds through the sharing of recipes.

Stop by this open house to see some of the manuscript and published cookbooks from the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library’s collections and take home updated adaptations of a few of their recipes (tested and edited by Elizabeth)!

Hosted by The Ohio State University Libraries.
