Queer joy — the radical act of celebrating identity, love, and community — is powerful and political. In the face of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation, joy becomes both a lifeline and a form of resistance. For some, queer joy is possible through financial stability, civic recognition, the support of allies, or safe communities — yet others face isolation, poverty, or exclusion.

Our annual press conference and awards ceremony will be at 10am on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in the Ohio Statehouse Atrium.

We will release our 2025 Fatalities Report and present survivor and advocate Kar’mell Triplett with the Croucher Family Award for Outstanding Leadership. Ohio Senators Theresa Gavarone and Paula Hicks-Hudson will receive the Leadership in Policy Awards.

Light refreshments and ASL interpreters will be provided.

This fall, Green Columbus will be hosting its seventh annual tree giveaway in an effort to increase the urban forest of Columbus. We will be hosting three free tree giveaways to distribute hundreds of three-gallon native trees to Columbus residents. Residents may choose from a variety of species — red oak, tulip poplar, red maple, black cherry, and sycamore — all of which are native to Ohio and support native plants and animals. Trees are grown in our tree nursery in Linden, Ohio.
